Removal and replacement of deteriorated lead, cleaning and glass replacement. Preserving the buildings Stained Glass Heritage for generations to come.

Brisbane Leadlight Service understand the requirements of undertaking works that abide by International Standards in when working on Heritage Listed Buildings.

Glass Protectors

Glass Protectors are installed to safe guard  priceless pieces of art such as stained glass windows from malicious damage, and the elements they also plays a contributing factor to the longevity of the stained glass panels.

Commissions

Memorial Windows can be commissioned by Church Donors to create a lasting tribute to a loved one. We work closely with both the Church and Donor to ensure that both the design and style are suited to the existing Church style and architecture.

Residential

Brisbane Leadlight Service has had extensive experience in residential commissions, creating unique designs in consultation with our clients.

The cost of each window is related to the intricacy of the design and types of glass used.

Projects Include:

Mater Hospital Chapel

Restored and refitted all the leadlight panels in the Chapel at The Mater Hospital, including the Sanctuary Stained glass windows.

Ipswich RSL

Removed, restored and refitted the Ipswich RSL Memorial Stained Glass Window.

All Hallows Main Chapel and Saint Ann’s Chapel

Removed, restored and refitted all the leadlight panels in the Chapels at All Hallows School Removed, restored and refitted 2 Bavarian Stained glass windows in Saint Ann’s Chapel at All Hallows School.

Install 7 protectors in 6mm toughened safety glass for the Stained Glass All Hallows Chapel.

Restored leadlight panel in skylight, redesign protective and installed glass for the Skylight in All Hallows Chapel.

Old Queensland Museum

The project required Brisbane Leadlight Service to undertake the full restoration, removal and transportation of the large Leadlight Window at the Old Qld Museum which consisted of 162 individual panels.

The work also included the restoration of the 20 steel frames which had to be removed, repainted and refitted to specified guidelines as requested by Project Services to meet Heritage Standards.

 

St Paul Anglican Church Ipswich.

Removed, restored and refitted a Stained Glass Window of St Paul Anglican Church Ipswich.

Church House.

Installed all the glass protectors on the Ann street façade of Church house within the Saint John’s precinct.

Saint John’s Anglican Cathedral and Precinct including Webber House and Church House.

Removed. restored and refitted the Rose Window in Saint John’s Cathedral consisting of 64 Stained Glass panels

Manufacture and installed all the steel hoper  windows as well as leadlight panels to mimic the existing windows of the clerestory for the extension and final stage of Saint John’s Cathedral.

Installed all of the David Saunders Stained Glass windows on the lower level of Saint John’s Cathedral.

Installed 22 glass protectors on the western façade of Saint John’s Cathedral.

Installed millennium window at Saint John’s Cathedral.

Removed, restored and refitted a total of 76 stained glass panels on the eastern wall of the Cathedral and fitted 39 glass protectors to cover all the stained glass panels on the eastern wall.

St Joseph’s Catholic Cathedral – Rockhampton

Brisbane Leadlight Service was presented with a Certificate of Excellence for this project

Installation of Protective Glazing to the whole of the Cathedral which required close consultation with other key staff involved with the Restoration Project such as the Project Manager and the Stone Masons.

Various complex templates / measurements were taken to accommodate the different window shapes and sizes.

Every protector contours stone work.

Protectors which were secured on the North and South elevation were all hinged, hence they can be opened to clean the stained glass panels if needed.

No Polycarbonate sheets were used on this project only Grade A safety glass.

Webber House

Removed, restored and refit all the leadlight panels in Webber House -Ann St Brisbane.

Saint Mark Anglican Church – Clayfield

Manufactured and installed 4 new windows depicting the four Evangelists.

Remove all the panels from the west wall, fully restored and refitted with safety glass protectors.

Supplied and fitted safety glass protectors to the eastern wall.

St Paul’s Anglican Cathedral – Rockhampton

Removal and restoration of 9 William Bustard Stained Glass panels.

Part of the requirement was to treat 5 of the steel casements for rust.

This process was done in our studio and involved rust converter, metal primer and finished coat with a metal black satin enamel.

The main frame was treated in the same fashion on site.

Removed, restored and protected the Coronation Window manufactured by the well renowned HARMAN Studios in England and unveiled by the Her Royal Highness in 1952.

Nazareth Lutheran Church – Woolloongabba

As a result of a fire which, incinerated the church,
Brisbane Leadlight Service was appointed to undertake the project which included:

  • The Aisle Windows
    The Supply of 12 steel frame powder coated casement windows.
    The redesign, manufacture and installation of leadlight panels into casements with stained glass motifs.
  • Apse Windows.
    Redesign, manufacture and install in timber frame,
    Three full Stained Glass circular panels. (Crown Head of Christ, Holy Spirit and the Lamb of God).

Saint John’s Anglican Church Dalby

Removed historical window which had been badly damaged by vandals.

Removed, restored and refitted with glass protector.

Repainted a total of 40 pieces of stained glass including.

  • Drapery from Christ.
  • Drapery from Angel in the Christ window.
  • Drapery from Saint John’s.
  • Drapery from Saint Paul.
  • Wings.
  • Clouds.
  • Decorative border.
  • Face of Christ.
  • Saint John’s Eagle.
  • Inscription Plate.

Ann Street Presbyterian Church

Removal of all the leadlight panels as well as steel frames.

Restored steel frames and refit in place.

Refit leadlight panels.

At the request of the architect, Brisbane Leadlight Service had to retain ventilation throughout the church, hence the bottom sash was able to open on a wind out mechanism and have a separate protector from the rest of the window.

Installing the protector on the opening sash was done with specially design brackets that allowed an open cavity between the glass and the leadlight panel to prevent any condensation.

The rest of the window above the opening sash was covered with one protector.

 

Many more Church and Government buildings have been work on by Brisbane Leadlight Service since the 2014 storm.
